In a myriad of thoughts,
muddled blobs of incoherence,
I sit beside an open window
and listen to whirring cars
as the cool, early Spring breeze,
contaminated with pollen and car exhaust,
permeates my studio apartment
illuminated by a dying flame.
She’s been asleep for hours now.
Her subtle smile of peaceful dreams
mocks my pounding head and ringing ears
begging for respite.
The horizon bursts with orange and yellow
as birds erupt from nightly slumber
and I remain by the open winow
wondering only a single thought:
will I sleep tonight?
The projections are in and Mitt Romney has won New Hampshire. Ron Paul will come in second and Jon Huntsman third. Mitt Romney appears to be polling around 35-36%, Ron Paul around 25-26%, and Huntsman 18-19%. While the numbers are not as strong as Huntsman had hoped, he already told CNN he intends to continue to South Carolina and beyond.
I am not a Republican. I am an independent thinker with liberal tendencies. However, there is one candidate in the Republican field which I would not be totally opposed to supporting. If it were to come down to him and President Obama, I would sit down and really think about my vote. The Republican I am talking about: Jon Huntsman.
Jon Huntsman is the former Governor of Utah (2004-2009), Ambassador to Singapore (92-93) and China (09-11), and CEO of his family business. He has experienced success in all aspects of private and public life and is currently a millionaire. He has served publicly for both a Republican (Bush, Sr.) and Democrat (Obama) president. The time spent in the private sector allowed him to enact policies as governor which led Utah to being named as a top three state to do business. His approval rating touched 90% in stretches and he left office with an approval rating over 80%.
Huntsman is a proven leader with a track record of success. He works with both Republicans and Democrats. He is more conservative than Obama for sure. However, he supports civil unions, believes in evolution, and has taken steps to curtail global warming as governor of Utah. Huntsman is a leader and may be the kind of person the United States needs at this point in our history.
I am not saying I am going to vote for him. I am just saying I might.
